The MX5 Pro (internal model code TL5500) is the 72-volt step in the Sting line. Its DC IPM motor is rated 5.5 kW continuous and 13.4 kW peak, delivering 500 N·m at the rear wheel with the 48T sprocket, with three ride modes — Eco, Sport and Hyper. Unrestricted top speed is 55+ mph (88+ km/h).
The pack is a 72V / 40Ah assembly of Samsung 50S 21700 cells holding 2,880 Wh, with maximum range quoted at 62 mi (100 km) at a 15 mph cruise. Regen is adjustable across four levels and gets its own dedicated lever.
Suspension is where the money shows: an adjustable air plus dual spring fork with 220 mm of travel, and an adjustable linkage shock with 85 mm of travel. Brakes are 4-piston hydraulic on 220 x 3 mm rotors front and rear. Wheels are 19-inch with CNC hubs and reinforced spokes, on 70/100-19 front and 80/100-19 rear off-road tires.
The forged 6061-T6 aluminum frame gives a 76 kg (167 lb) curb weight, 840 mm (33.1 in) seat height, 1,250 mm (49.2 in) wheelbase and 300 mm (11.8 in) of ground clearance, with a full-colour TFT display. What battery does the MX5 Pro use?
A 72V 40Ah pack on Samsung 50S cells, removable like the rest of the range and charged in roughly 2.5–3 hours on the 12A charger.
Should I buy the MX5 Pro or a 60V Sting?
Buy the MX5 Pro if you already know what you want from an electric dirt bike and have run out of road on a 60V machine. For a first bike, the 60V Sting MX3 or Sting R MX4 is the better starting point.
