Talaria Sting Motor — OEM IPM Mid-Drive

The factory interior-permanent-magnet mid-drive used across the Sting Offroad line, mounted in the standard Talaria mid-drive position and paired with the factory FOC controller. Phase leads carry the factory colour coding, so reconnection is a matter of pairing colours rather than tracing a pinout.

Motor failures on the Sting series are not common. When they happen, the usual causes are water getting past the IP rating or heat damage from an over-amped aftermarket controller running without a heat sink upgrade — worth knowing, because both are avoidable on the replacement. Symptoms that point at the motor rather than something upstream include total power loss with a charged battery and a functioning controller, grinding from the housing, water at the seals, or the smell of burnt electronics. Check the phase wires with a multimeter before ordering, as a controller fault can mimic motor failure closely.

Replacement is advanced work and reasonable to hand to a shop: two to three hours with a torque wrench, hex keys, a motor puller and a connector kit. Battery disconnected first, phase wires matched by colour — mis-wiring causes erratic running or a controller fault — and all motor-mount bolts torqued to service-manual spec. Covered by a 12-month manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects, with 30-day returns on unused, unmodified items.
