Suspension setup is the cheapest transformation in motorcycling and the one most Talaria owners never do. The factory settings target a hypothetical average rider; if you are lighter, heavier, faster or slower than that ghost, twenty minutes with a tape measure and a screwdriver will change your bike more than any bolt-on from the catalogue.

Start with sag: the foundation

Race sag is how much the rear suspension compresses under you, geared up, from fully extended. Target roughly 30–33% of total rear travel for trail riding.

  1. With the bike on a stand (wheel unloaded), measure vertically from axle to a fixed point on the fender. Record.
  2. Rider aboard in gear, feet on pegs, helper balancing: measure the same points. The difference is race sag.
  3. Too much sag: add rear preload. Too little: reduce. Adjust, remeasure, repeat.

If you cannot reach correct sag within the preload range, you need a spring rate for your weight — not a fault, just physics; heavier and lighter riders both hit this, and spring options live in the suspension range.

Fork basics

Set fork sag similarly toward ~25–30% of travel where preload adjustment exists. Then ride a familiar 10-minute loop and interrogate the front end: deflecting off small chatter means compression too firm (or pressure too high — check tire pressures first, always); diving under braking and wallowing means too soft; packing over repeated hits (riding lower and harsher through whoops) means rebound too slow — speed it up a click at a time.

The clicker method that actually works

Change one adjuster, two clicks, one test loop — never multiple changes at once. Write settings down (phone note: date, clicks from full-in, terrain). Two sessions of this beats years of vague dissatisfaction, and you will develop the vocabulary to describe what you feel — which makes asking us for advice productive.
