Winter kills more Talaria batteries than riding does. The complete off-season storage routine: charge state, where to keep the pack, chassis prep, and the two-minute monthly check.

More battery capacity is lost in garages between November and March than on any trail. A Talaria stored wrong for one winter can emerge with measurably less range forever; stored right, it starts spring exactly where it left off. The difference is about an hour of prep and a two-minute monthly ritual.

The battery: get this part right and the rest is detail

  2. Remove the pack from the bike. Quick-release makes this trivial, it prevents slow parasitic drain, and it lets you store the pack properly even if the bike lives in a cold shed.
  3. Store the pack indoors: 50–70°F, dry, off concrete floors, away from sunlight and anything flammable. A closet shelf is perfect.
  4. Monthly check: confirm the charge level; top back toward 50% if it has drifted low. Two minutes, calendar reminder, done.

The chassis: an hour of prevention

  • Wash and fully dry the bike before it sits — stored mud holds moisture against fasteners and spokes all season.

  • Overinflate tires slightly (+3–4 psi) and ideally store on a stand to prevent flat-spotting; rotate the wheels monthly otherwise.
  • Back off suspension preload if you run it firm, and cycle the forks a few strokes mid-winter to keep seals wet.
  • Protect the connectors: a dab of dielectric grease on the main battery connector and a cover over the charge port keep spring gremlins away — most no-start mysteries are born in storage.

Where to store the bike itself

The bike (minus pack) tolerates cold fine; what hurts is condensation cycles. A garage beats a damp shed; a breathable cover beats plastic sheeting, which traps moisture. Elevate on a stand if possible — it protects tires and makes the monthly wheel-spin check effortless.

The spring wake-up (15 minutes)

  1. Full charge the pack the night before — at room temperature
  2. Reinstall, power on, check the display for errors
  3. Tires back to riding pressure; check the pressure targets for your terrain
  4. Chain tension and a fresh light lube
  5. Brake lever feel — spongy means bleed before the first real ride
  6. Five-minute gentle shakedown before the first proper outing
