Talaria batteries, motors and charging — what fits what
The battery is the single most expensive component on the bike and the one people most often buy wrong. Everything on this page is listed against the platform it fits, so start with your model code rather than the capacity figure.
Choosing a Talaria battery
The 60V Sting platform ships with packs from 38.4Ah to 45Ah on LG 21700 cells. A like-for-like Talaria battery replacement keeps the bike exactly as the factory intended and preserves your warranty. Going up in capacity — a 60V 65Ah EBMX pack, for instance — buys range rather than speed, and is the right move if your rides end early because the pack does.
Going up in voltage is a different decision. A 72V battery on a Sting MX3 or MX4 raises power alongside range, but it needs a controller that can take it, and it changes what the manufacturer will cover. We list 72V packs and matched controller kits together for exactly that reason. The 72V MX5 Pro runs Samsung 50S cells from the factory; the 96V Komodo runs a 45Ah IP67-sealed pack.
Range and life, honestly
Manufacturer range figures are steady-cruise numbers. Hard riding, cold weather and a heavier rider all cut into them. A well-treated Talaria pack holds usable capacity for several years; what shortens its life is storing it full or flat, charging in the cold, and leaving it on the charger for days. Charge to 80–90% for daily use and top to full before a long ride.
Motors and gearboxes
Sting MX3 uses a PMSM mid-drive, Sting R MX4 an IPM unit, both through sealed reduction gearboxes with a chain final drive. We stock OEM replacements for each, complete gearbox assemblies, and EBMX motors for riders building for more output. A motor swap almost always means a controller conversation too — ask before you order one alone.
Chargers
OEM 110V chargers for the MX3 and MX4, plus a 60V 12A fast charger that brings a pack up in roughly 2.5–3 hours instead of overnight. Use the charger matched to your pack voltage; a mismatched charger is the fastest way to kill a good battery.
